New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles was mum on Chan Gailey's status going forward

Todd Bowles offered no clarity on the status of his coordinators

Florham Park, NJ - We know Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan are staying, and Woody Johnson is probably handing control over to his brother, but the status of the rest of the coaching staff is still very much up in the air.

Reports started circulating before the game against the Bills that Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey was going to be fired, everyone has just assumed defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers would be let go, and today Bowles declined to debunk those rumors saying he needs to talk to his staff.

"That's something we have to meet with the coaches about. I haven't met with the coaches yet to discuss it," Bowles said. "So, right now until we go through the process, everything's as is. We'll meet in the next couple of days with everybody, and we'll go over that as we see forward."

Of course that sounds awfully similar to what Bowles said about Ryan Fitzpatrick remaining the starter right before he got benched for Geno Smith. When pressed, Bowles toed the line but mixed in a compliment, "Again, we'll discuss everything as we'll go forward. I think Chan's a hell of a coach. That's why I hired him in the first place. But going forward, me and him will sit down and have a private discussion, and we'll go from there."

With Bowles staying it's easy to see Gailey being let go, someone has to pay for a 5-11 season and if it's not the coach, or GM, then next in line are the coordinators. Gailey wasn't in the top 20 reasons why the season was such a disappointment, but someone has to pay even as the players openly admit they let him down and failed to execute. In the end Bowles will have to make changes to his staff and Gailey will likely be one of them.
