Bates, a 5-10, 215-pound running back/kick returner is an 11th year player out of the University of Arizona. He signed with the Jets as a free agent on September 10, 2003 and averaged 27.1 yards on 22 kickoff returns in his eight games played. His 27.1 average ranks third in the AFC and he also recorded six tackles on special teams. Bates suffered a hand injury in the week nine game against the Giants and was unable to return kicks last week at Oakland, but did play on special teams.

Lowe is a 6-1, 195-pound cornerback from the University of Washington in his second season in the NFL who was signed to the Jets' practice squad on October 15, 2003. The Seattle, Washington native was a fifth round (161st overall) selection of the Miami Dolphins in the 2002 Draft. Lowe played in one game during his rookie year with Miami and was waived following their 2003 training camp. He spent time on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans earlier in the 2003 campaign.

Brown signed with the Jets as a rookie free agent from Auburn University on May 2, 2003. The 6-0, 238-pound linebacker tallied eight tackles (three solo) and had one interception in two games this preseason. He was waived at the end of training camp and signed to the practice squad on September 1 before being waived on October 16.
