The morning after Indianapolis

After the 38-31 loss to the Colts, the Jets now stand at (3-7) in what is now becoming a disappointing season. Here is a look at what Herman Edwards and some the players are saying after this crushing loss.

HEAD COACH HERMAN EDWARDS (on the game-general)

"It's a hard one to lose on the road, but we've just got to come next week. I told our team we've got to find a way to win the game next week, but it won't be easy."

"I thought it was a game of big plays on both teams' part. But if you look at the bottom line, we had 34 offensive plays, they had 75. That's hard to get involved in a game like that. Defensively, we couldn't get off the field enough times. Offensively, we showed some spurts at times in making some big plays. At the end (the Colts) did a pretty job defensively and slowed us down offensively."

"Offensively, they did a good job of mixing it up with the run and the pass. We said if they could run it and pass it, it was going to be hard to defend them. They're a great play-action football team and they did both. They could run the ball and play-action pass us, and they made some big plays."

"Obviously, special teams plays were big in this game on both parts, and it was a high-scoring game. It was one of those games where you knew whoever had the ball last had a good chance to win the game and make a big play at the end."

HEAD COACH HERMAN EDWARDS (on WR Jonathan Carter)

"I thought he had a break-out game, and that was good to see. He's fast, and I think everybody found that out today. Once he gets a step on you he can hit home runs, and he made two great plays today. It was good to see him have some success." HEAD COACH HERMAN EDWARDS (on Colts' fake field goal)

"We were set up for an inside rush, and they just kicked us out. We had a middle push rush up front and they must've checked it."

QB-CHAD PENNINGTON (On turn out of game.)

: "It's difficult. Any time you lose, it is the worst feeling in the world. A true professional will bounce back, and try to win another game."

"We win as a team, we lose as a team. As offense, we had our shots in the fourth quarter, we had a couple drives we could have sustained, then their defense stepped up to the plate. It boiled down to the team that made the most plays on offense."

(On fourth quarter play calling)

" Then had a good pass rush. I blame on of them on me. You have got to throw the ball away, so we don't get into the third and long situation.

LB-MARVIN JONES (On the fake FG)

"It was a well-designed play with good execution. I guess we weren't looking for that and they certainly got us.

DB-JON McGRAW (On Peyton Manning)

"Hands down, he is the best play-action quarterback in the league. His abilities make things difficult on the linebackers. The Colts can pass with Peyton or run with Edgerrin (James) which puts the opponents in a bind.

(On the Jets defense)

"Our defense did not play well today. The offense gave us every chance to win, but the bottom line is we didn't make plays on defense.

(On the Jets 3-7 record)

"We can't worry about our record at this point. We just need to play with some pride. We still have a lot to play for and there is no excuse for any letdowns at this point.
