Jets sign nine players to future contracts

The New York Jets announced today they have signed the following free agents to future contracts: linebackers Wes Bautovich and Ryan Myers, running backs Chad Brinker and Ian Smart, tight end Matt Dominguez, wide receivers Rob Milanese and Muneer Moore, punter Dallas Neil and defensive tackle Alonzo Shuler. The announcement was made by the Jets public relations department. <BR><BR>

Bautovich, a 6-2, 210-pound linebacker, first signed with the Club as a rookie free agent on May 2, 2003. The former Texas A&M Aggie made 22 tackles (12 solo), had one interception, one of which he returned 78 yards for a touchdown, and one tackle on special teams in the 2003 preseason.

Brinker originally signed with the Jets on May 2, 2003 as a rookie free agent from Ohio University. The 5-10, 205-pound running back carried the ball eight times for 10 yards and two touchdowns and returned one kickoff for 15 yards in four preseason games for the Club in 2003.

Dominguez, a 6-2, 220-pound tight end is a second year player from Sam Houston State University. He played in 12 games with the Denver Broncos as a rookie in 2001, catching three passes for 26 yards and recording one tackle on special teams. He spent the 2002 season on the Broncos’ non-football injury list with a knee injury and was released by Denver prior to the 2003 season. The native of Georgetown, Texas played in 2003 with the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Roughriders, where he had 75 receptions for 1,071 yards and three touchdown catches.

Milanese is a 5-9, 179-pound wide receiver out of the University of Pennsylvania. He first signed as a rookie free agent with the New England Patriots on May 2, 2003 and participated in their mini-camps before being released on July 17, 2003.

Moore, a 6-1, 200-pound receiver entered the NFL as a fifth round draft choice of the Denver Broncos in 2000. The former University of Richmond Spider suffered an ankle injury in the preseason opener of his rookie season and spent the all of 2000 on the Broncos' injured reserve list before being released on August 6, 2001.

Myers, a 6-2, 245-pound linebacker from the University of Akron played both inside and outside linebacker on the collegiate level and started at middle linebacker every game of his senior season for the Zips in 2002, recording 80 tackles.

Neil signed with the Jets as a free agent on June 25, 2003. The third-year, 6-1, 235-pound punter from the University of Montana, punted once for 53 yards for the Jets in the 2003 preseason.

Shuler, a 6-3, 310-pound defensive tackle signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent from Benedict College on May 2, 2003. He participated in the Club's mini-camp before being waived on May 16, 2003.

Smart signed with the Jets last spring as a rookie free agent from C.W. Post on May 5, 2003. The 5-8, 185-pound running back/kick returner gained 34 yards on 13 carries and averaged 23.0 yards on three kickoff returns in the 2003 preseason.
