Jets retain Sam Cowart

Sam Cowart played middle linebacker with the Buffalo Bills, prior to coming to the Jets, and thrived at the position. He will now have a chance to play that spot with the Jets.

Linebacker Sam Cowart will remain with the New York Jets and move to the middle linebacker position.

Here is a statement from his agent Paul Healy -

"His contract is intact with no cuts and he is now the starting middle linenbacker of the New York Jets, playing all three downs. This was an important thing for Sam. He felt the last two years he helped the team doing whatever they asked him to do, and he's been playing out of position the last two years. We felt it was a fair deal for the New York Jets and for Sam to play the position he's most comfortable with. He feels he can help the team better that way. You saw what he did in Buffalo in 2000 (playing middle linebacker). He feels like he can have the same impact (with the Jets). He feels he can be a dominating force and help the team tremendously."
