Globe reports Lynch leaning towards Denver

While most rumors have free agent safety John Lynch signing with the Jets, the Boston Globe reports he is leaning toward joining the Denver Broncos.

Globe writer Michael Smith had the following note in today's paper:

"John Lynch is not coming to New England. But Patriots fans may take solace in the likelihood that Lynch won't be an annual visitor, either, as the rival New York Jets also are on the verge of losing out on the five-time Pro Bowler.

"It appears Lynch, a Tampa Bay Buccaneer the first 11 seasons of his career, will be wearing a different shade of orange this year. Last night, a source close to the player indicated the safety is leaning heavily toward choosing the Denver Broncos over the Jets and Oakland Raiders.

"Lynch's wife, Linda, and father, John, a former linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, are said to be in support of Lynch joining the Broncos. A decision could come as early as today."

If Lynch does join the Broncos, this would be a blow to the Jets, who need a strong safety and a defensive leader, and were hoping the five-time Pro Bowler could fill both roles.
