Jets standout wide receiver Wayne Chrebet hurt his shoulder diving for a pass in the team's win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Chrebet was in a lot of pain after the game, but the Jets think he should be ready to play against Miami next Sunday.
"He's okay." Jets coach Herman Edwards said. "He's sore. His shoulder is sore so he's going to get treatment on it all this week. I think that he'll probably be able to go.
What caused the injury? "He just fell on it," Edwards said. "When he stretched out on the long pass, where he almost caught it, he got caught hitting his shoulder. Generally when he reaches out for that, he does a good job of really stretching out and trying to flip while he's in the air, and landing on his back. But he couldn't get it down, and he got caught on his shoulder."
So did he hurt his rotator cuff? "No," Edwards said. "It's really sore from where he hit it." Chrebet has a high pain threshold, so if there is no structural problem, he should be able to play on Sunday.
Quote of the day - Santana Moss - "I'm feeling really good. I'm ready to let loose."
Player Notes: WR Wayne Chrebet doesn't have any structural damage to this injured shoulder, and should be able to play this week in Miami. He is listed as probable at this point, but didn't practice on Wednesday. WR Santana Moss was listed as questionable with a knee last week for the Jets game against the Chiefs, but didn't play. This week he is not on the injury report and will likely see his first action of the season. Expect the Jets to send him deep a few times to stretch the Dolphins defense.
In practice, Moss looks like he has all his speed back. G Randy Thomas still has a high ankle sprain and is listed as probable for the Jets game in Miami. Thomas has missed the last two games. He didn't practice on Wednesday. The Jets desperately need him back to help them handle Tim Bowens and Darrell Gardner. Those two would likely be too much to handle for J.P. Machado. RB Curtis Martin is having his best season and continues to lead the NFL in rushing. His offensive line is having an excellent season and they have good chemistry with their star back..
Zach Thomas said the Jets line is the best in the NFL. C Kevin Mawae as usual is a key in the Jets-Dolphins matchup. He consistently dominates Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas and that keys the Jets running game.
