Developmental OT drafted in Round Six

Jets sixth round pick, offensive tackle, Marko Cavka has a lot of potential, but needs a lot of work.

Cavka started 37 straight games for Division II Sacramento State. He impressed enough there to be named to the East West Shrine game. Cavka, who was born in Croatia, and is still a work-in-progress.

He is a little over 6-7, but weighs just 290 pounds. He needs a lot of work in the weight room.

"Cavka has the skill to play left tackle, but he needs to improve his strength," said one scout. "He has good footwork and speed. He could use a lot of work, but he is very coachable, so he should learn quickly. Cavka's lean body allows him to get to the defender on pulls and counter blocks. He is a good pass protector, but needs to bulk up and become a more dominant blocker in the running game.

Jets offensive line coach Doug Morrone is an excellent teacher as evidenced by his work with guard Brandon Moore. If he can develop Cavka, the way he did Moore, the Jets could have something here.
