Johnson, selected with the 234th pick overall from the University of Nebraska, is a 6-4, 260-pound four-time academic All-Big 12 Conference selection and garnered Academic All-America honors as a senior. He started 22 of 49 games (played in 39 on defense and 10 on offense) for the Huskers and recorded 131 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 25 quarterback pressures, three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and four pass deflections.
Johnson, the first of three consecutive compensatory selections in the seventh round, is the second of ten New York Jets 2004 draft picks to have come to terms with the Green and White.
Johnson has a great motor, and could turn out to be a seventh round steal if he stays healthy. He had concussion and back problems at Nebraska.
