The Jets selected the Kansas State product with the 236th choice overall in the seventh round. Washington, a 6-1, 217-pound native of Wichita, KS, was a captain for the Wildcats as a senior. In 49 games, with 24 starts, he recorded 195 tackles, with three sacks, 24 passes defensed and three interceptions for 107 yards in returns with two touchdowns. He entered K-State as a heralded running back and switched to defense prior to his sophomore season.
Washington is the third of the Jets ten 2004 draft choices to sign thus far. Fifth round selection Erik Coleman signed with the Jets on May 26 and defensive end Trevor Johnson, a seventh round pick (234th overall), signed on May 28.
Washington is considered a terrific seventh round value who has starting potential in the future.
