Jets sign McClover

The New York Jets announced today they have signed seventh round draft choice LB Darrell McClover from the University of Miami.

McClover, 6-2, 226-pounds, was the first of the Jets' four seventh round selections in the seventh round of 2004 NFL Draft. The announcement was made by the Jets public relations department.

McClover, taken with the 212th overall selection is a native of Coconut Creek, Florida. He was a standout special teams' player during his career with the Hurricanes and moved into the starting lineup as a senior in 2003. He became the third Miami linebacker to be drafted this year, joining Jets first round choice Jonathan Vilma (12th player selected overall) and D.J. Williams (17th player selected overall, Denver).

McClover is one of a team-high five players from the University of Miami on the Jets' 2004 training camp roster. He joins Vilma, 2003 draft choice DE Matt Walters, 2001 first round draft choice (2003 Club MVP) WR/KR Santana Moss and rookie free agent S Jarrell Weaver on the roster.

McClover is the fourth of the Jets' 10 2004 draft selections to have signed their first professional contracts, joining fifth round draft selection S Erik Coleman (Washington State), their second selection in the seventh round DE Trevor Johnson (Nebraska), and their fourth seventh round selection SS Rashad Washington (Kansas State).
