Jets sign Kendall

The Jets have signed veteran offensive lineman Pete Kendall four days after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals.

He will likely move to left guard and start for the Jets, replacing Brent Smith who will move back to the reserve guard/tackle swingman spot. The former Cardinal played center for Arizona last season, but he was a starting left guard for the first seven years of his career.

Kendall played his first five years in Seattle, two of which were spent with Jets center Kevin Mawae. His experience with the field general of the Jets' offensive line could help Kendall jell with his new teammates more quickly than usual.

The addition also gives the Jets some much-needed depth on the line, as Smith, who played most of his first six seasons as a tackle for the Dolphins before becoming the emergency starter at right guard for the Jets last season, goes to the bench.
