A conversation with Curtis Martin

Curtis Martin rushed for 196 yards in the Jets 31-24 opening day win over the Cincinnati Bengals, proving he is still in his prime at 31. Here is a Q-and-A with Martin regarding this great performance:

Q)How satisfying was your performance against the Bengals?

Martin: (It was) very satisfying. I feel like it's a step in the right direction, and I think more important than anything is to see all the hard work pay off. I requested more work in the offseason and during training camp, so there's nothing more gratifying than seeing your hard work pay off.

Q)Was that the best game by a Jets offensive line in your career?

Martin: I believe so. I can't even explain how well they've done. There are different things as a fan or someone watching you can't tell that they did, but those guys did a magnificent job today. Probably one of the best jobs they've done since I've been here.

Q)How much has all the running in the hills in Santa Monica this off-season benefitted you?

Martin: I know I was prepared better than I have been in the past. I knew that I was ready and when you're ready, your confidence is higher.

Q)How great is it to have all these weapons on offense?

Martin: I don't feel we performed at our best. I think we did well today, but I think we still have a lot of things we can correct, both in the running and passing games, but I think we got off to a good start. I think we set the foundation.

Q)How does your body feel after so many carries and taking so many hits?

Martin: I feel good. I feel as though I can go do it again right now. I'm not joking.

Q)How would you compare how you felt in this year's opener compared to last year?

Martin: Last opening day I wasn't healthy. I just think I was ill-prepared. I don't think I was as ready as I am this year. I don't think that I had the work then I have had this year.
