The linebacker, who hurt his knee against San Diego in Week Two, might need another week or two to get healthy.
While he can now run straight ahead with no problem, he is still struggling moving laterally.
"If I have to wait another week or two to make sure I'm ready, I will do that," said Cowart.
"I don't know if he has full confidence (in his knee) yet," said Jets coach Herman Edwards. "You don't want a player going ou there if he's not fully confident. If they are worried about certain things, you don't put them out there."
Cowart is listed as probable right now, but his status is realistically more like doubtful at this point.
Jonathan Vilma will continue to start at middle linebacker for Cowart, and might not relinquish the job when Cowart is healthy.
