The New York Jets announced today they have signed quarterback Ricky Ray to their active roster and safety Jarrell Weaver to their practice squad.<p>
Ray led the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League to a Grey Cup Championship and threw for 4,640 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2003. Ray broke into the NFL with San Francisco during the 2001 season before playing two years with Edmonton from 2002-03. In 2004 preseason action, he completed 13-of-24 passes for 108 yards. After being released following the conclusion of training camp, Ray was signed to the Jets' practice squad on September 6.
Weaver, a 6-3, 206-pound defensive back, originally joined the Jets as a rookie free agent on April 30, 2004 and was waived following the conclusion of training camp on August 28, 2004. Weaver appeared in three preseason games this year and recorded seven tackles in addition to one special teams tackle. He was signed to the Jets' practice squad on September 21 and released on October 5.
