Ellis gets contract extension

The Jets public relations department announced today that the team has signed defensive end Shaun Ellis to a long-term contract extension.<p>

But in order for Ellis to continue playing on a high-level, like he is this season, the team needs to re-sign the team's best defensive player, end John Abraham, who is also a free agent after this season.

With all the attention Abraham gets on the other side, Ellis gets one-on-one blocks, and is able to make a lot happen. Last year with Abraham out of the lineup for most of the second half of the season with a groin injury, Ellis wasn't as much of an impact player, and his sack totals slipped.

There is a good chance the Jets will use the "franchise" tag on Abraham after this season to assure that they don't lose him.
