Backup QB situation undecided?

Despite that fact that he's not playing Sunday in St. Louis, John Abraham is still listed as questionable . . .<p>

The Jets backup quarterback situation for Sunday is up in air according to Jets coach Herman Edwards. Quincy Carter missed practice Wednesday and Thursday due to an illness, but returned on Friday.

"We probably won't make it (the decision) until Sunday," said Edwards. "Whether [Carter's] (the number) two or three (quarterback), I can't tell you right now."

In other words, they have probably made up their minds, but they don't want to make the announcement until Sunday . . .

Justin McCareins will continue to return punt this week in place of Santana Moss.

"[McCareins] is a tough runner, he runs inside and I think Santana (Moss) has really struggled all year with a hamstring," said Edwards.

His hamstring might be bothering him, but the main reason Moss is not returning punts anymore is likely his proclivity to run laterally, instead of taking the ball up field.

"Justin is the guy that goes back there and makes good decisions when he catches the ball," said Edwards. "He's a north-south guy, he's not going to try to run left to right."
