Jets schedule a RB visit

Due to the loss of Lamont Jordan in free agency, the Jets will be looking to add a running back in the upcoming draft.<p>

So on April 6, they are going to take a first hand look at one of the draft's top running back prospects - Minnesota's Marion Barber III. He will visit the Jets complex in Hempstead on that date.

He is the son of Marion Barber Jr., who played fullback for the Jets from 1982-88.

Barber III, is a 5-11, 215 pound tailback out of the University of Minnesota. He runs the forty in the 4.5 area, and has a nice combination of power and speed.

Barber, who is entering the draft following his junior season, is considered a second round prospect. With the powerful Jordan now in Oakland, the Jets need a big back who can break tackles, and do damage as an interior runner. With Curtis Martin and Derrick Blaylock, currently the Jets top two tailbacks, the team lacks size at the position. While Barber isn't huge, he's bigger and more powerful than Martin and Blaylock. Plus he has the growth potential to get up to 225-230 pounds.

Barber also returned kicks at Minnesota, so that makes him even more appealing to the Jets, who are looking for an upgrade in that department.
