Jets add another college kicker to join Nugent

With Doug Brien on his way out, the Jets need another leg for training camp.<p>

They have found their man.

On Tuesday, they signed former Florida State placekicker Xavier Beitia. The teams signed the 5-9, 196 pound Bettia to avoid wearing out their new kicker, Mike Nugent, in training camp.

Barring injury, Beitia has no chance of making the team. He knows that. He just wants a chance to show his wares to possibly pique the interest of another team.

The Jets kicker the last two seasons, Doug Brien, will likely be released on June 1. The Minnesota Vikings have expressed an interest in signing Brien, who made 51 of 61 regular season field goal attempts during his two years with the Jets.
