Jets Notes

The NY Jets have officially hired Doug Marrone to become their new Offensive Line Coach. He was the Tight Ends/Offensive Tackles Coach for the University of Tennessee.

Just three days after being released by the NY Jets, MLB Marvin Jones has agreed to a 5 Year, $12 million contract that means he will more than likely end his career as a NY Jet. His new contract included a $3 million signing bonus...

The NY Jets have officially brought in SS Sam Garnes. After being released by the NY Giants, he reached a contract and signed a 3 Year deal worth well over $2 million. His signing bonus will be $500,000. He will be teamed up with FS Damien Robinson and will be replaced the departed SS Victor Green.

There are rumors that the NY Jets might make a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for CB Donnie Abraham for a 3rd round Draft Pick.

A deal MIGHT be made something this week. Abraham isn't the only Bucc the Jets are interested in, they are also bringing in MLB Jamie Duncan and DE Steve White for visits this week. Even CB Brian Kelly will be visiting as well. It just doesn't end with the Buccs either, DE Josh Edwards of the Tennessee Titans, LB Sam Cowart of the Buffalo Bills, and LB Shawn Barber of the Washington Redskins will all be visiting the NY Jets this week.

As of now, the NY Jets are $9.8 million UNDER the NFL Salary Cap. SS Victor Green, LB James Farrior, DT Shane Burton, and G Kerry Jenkins are all in the Free Agency Market. It's rumored that the NY Jets will do their best to resign Jones, Farrior, and possibly Green at lower prices depending on what happens to them in the market.

CB Ray Mickens had his contract extended by the NY Jets with deals of the extension and financial terms unavailable at this time. The NY Jets have released SS Victor Green. The NY Jets have resigned P Daniel Pope.

The NY Jets have offered tendered offers to the following players: G David Loverne KR Craig Yeast TE Daniel Wilcox S Nick Ferguson TE James Dearth DL Kelvin Moses OL Dennis O'Sullivan FS Damien Robinson has agreed to rework his deal with the NY Jets and therefore WILL be returning next season. His contract was restructured to be more cap-friendly.

The list of players released due to the NFL Salary Cap is: DT Shane Burton P Tom Tupa WR Matthew Hatchette S Chris Hayes Coach Edwards was granted a one-year extension to his contract making him the Head Coach until 2005.

A special "de-escalating" clause in QB Vinny Testaverde's contract makes his salary ($9 million) for this Season go down to just $750,000. Now if he's on the roster come June 2nd, 2002 (all signs point that he will indeed be the NY Jets starting QB next season), the $9 million will become GUARANTEED salary. Hopefully by then, the Jets will have a restructured contract made for him.

The NY Jets have officially hired Ron Colangelo as their new Director of Public Relations. Colangelo is no stranger to the position as he had the same position with the Florida Marlins.
