Jets sign Rhodes and Dreessen

On Monday, the New York Jets signed fourth round pick, safety Kerry Rhodes, and their second sixth round pick, tight end Joel Dreessen. Terms weren't announced.

Rhodes, a safety with great range out of Louisville, will be groomed as a potential replacement for the injury-prone Jon McGraw, who is a free agent after this season.

Dreessen, considered a sixth round steal by many, will likely be inactive for most games this year, barring injury. With the Jets set at tight end with Doug Jolley, Chris Baker and long-snapper James Dearth, 2005 will likely be a red-shirt year for Dreessen. But with Baker a free agent after this season, Dreessen could come in handy in 2006. The Colorado State product could also replace Dearth in the future because he can long-snap.
