Jets cut veteran to make room for Law

The Jets made a player move to clear cap space for Ty Law.

On Monday, the Jets released cornerback Ray Mickens.

The 10-year veteran, who was attempting to comeback from major knee reconstruction, likely won't be on the street long. There are a number of teams in need of a cornerback, including the Jets opening day opponent - Kansas City. Another team looking for a cornerback is Jacksonville. Jaguars GM James Harris was with the Jets personnel department when Mickens was picked in 1996.

The release of Mickens confirms that Law will be a Jet. The announcement will likely come this afternoon. The departure of Mickens also allows Law to wear the #24 jersey he wore in New England.
