Jets release Harper

The New York Jets announced today they have waived defensive tackle Alan Harper.

Harper's chances were hurt by the drafting of nose tackle Sione Pouha and free agent signing of defensive tackle Lance Legree. Pouha and Legree were guaranteed roster spots the second they were added. No matter how those guys played, Harper had no chance against them. NFL training camps aren't even playing fields.

Harper 6-1, 285 pounds was selected by the Jets in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft. He saw his first NFL action in the 2004 season playing in 11 regular season games and posting six tackles. He was active for both postseason contests and recorded three tackles, two solo. Harper was allocated to NFL Europe in the summer of 2004 where he posted 36 tackles and three sacks as a defensive tackle for the Scottish Claymores.
