Trade Completed

As an update to an earlier story, the Washington Times is reporting the trade between the Jets and Redskins involved Jets G David Loverne and a swap of 5th round draft picks.

The Redskins sent the Jets the 154th overall pick in exchange for G David Loverne and the 160th overall selection.

Loverne was drafted by the Jets in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Loverne, out of San Jose State, never cracked the starting lineup. He was primarily a special teams player and used exclusively as a short-yardage blocking FB.

Unfortunately for Loverne, the memory many Jets fans will have of him will be from the home opener last season against the Indianapolis Colts. Trailing 31-14, the Jets were deep in Colts territory when Vinny Testaverde attempted a handoff and was run into by Loverne. What ensued was a 95-yd. fumble return by Chukie Nwokorie. It was the longest fumble return in Colts history and put the Jets away for good.
