Jets fans sacked?

The Jets stunned many fans by drafting defensive end Bryan Thomas from the University of Alabama-Birmingham with the 22nd pick.

Thomas is the first UAB prospect ever taken in round one.

With obvious needs for a CB and three-technique DT the selection of the pass rushing DE was stunning.  Admitting that they did consider CBs Lito Sheppard and Mike Rumph, coach Herman Edwards said it's the guys up front that win football games for you.  Herm made sure to remind everyone that Thomas is 6'4", 260 lbs., has run the 40 in under 4.50 seconds, and had 35 sacks in his collegiate career.

Coach Edwards went on to dispute the perception the team has lost faith in Shaun Ellis.  Perhaps in a sign of things to come Edwards stated, "Shaun has played inside on third down before.  That was his best year of sacking the quarterback when he played over the guard rushing on third down."  Could we see a defensive line consisting of Abraham, Ferguson, Ellis, and Thomas?

While the coaching staff is ecstatic about having Thomas, the consensus of Jets fans still seems to be that they missed out on taking a corner.  For those of you who agree...Coach Edwards, GM Terry Bradway, and Bryan Thomas leave you with this:
Coach Edwards: "Terry mentioned to him that everyone thinks we need a corner.'"
Bryan Thomas: "Don't worry about it, coach, I'm going to sack the quarterback for you."
