Jets put Pennington, Mawae and Barton on IR

The New York Jets announced today they have placed linebacker Eric Barton, center Kevin Mawae and quarterback Chad Pennington on injured reserve.

The club also announced the signing of guard/tackle Steve Morley to a contact extension, and the signing of linebacker T.J. Hollowell and guard Doug Nienuis.

Morley, joined the Jets on August 8, 2005 in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. He has been inactive for six of the clubs seven contests and did not see action in the other. Morely played in 10 games, for NFL Europe's Rhein Fire, making three starts. Morley entered professional football as a first round (first overall) draft selection out of St. Mary's College by Calgary in the 2003 CFL Canadian College Draft and saw action in 11 Calgary games.

Hollowell, a 6-0, 235 pound product of Nebraska, was signed by the New York Giants as a rookie free agent on May 7, 2004, signed to their practice squad on September 7, 2004, and re-signed to the active roster October 13, 2004. In 2004, Holloway played on special teams in four games collecting one special teams tackle. He was a member of the Giants' practice squad during the 2005 season.

Nienhuis, 6-6, 307 pounds, was selected in the seventh round (254th overall) of the 2005 draft by the Seattle Seahawks. A product of Oregon State, he finished his college career with first-team All Pac 10 honors as a senior starting every game for OSU at RT (offense averaged 307 passing yards and 27 points per game). As a junior, he was awarded second-team All-Pac 10 selection and started every game on the offensive line helping the team average 463 yards per game in total offense. Nienhuis took over starting duties at right tackle beginning his streak of 38 consecutive starts his sophomore year and played in nine games as a reserve RT as a true freshman.
