Fiedler not close

Jets reserve quarterback Jay Fiedler isn't close to returning.

Fiedler has been out since Week Three with a separated right shoulder.

While he is no longer wearing a sling, he's still not close to playing.

"You could throw the ball farther than [Fiedler] right now," Jets coach Herman Edwards said to beat reporter Dave Hutchinson on Thursday.

The Jets starting quarterback at the beginning of the year, Chad Pennington, who also hurt his shoulder in Week Three, is also no longer wearing a sling.

But don't get to excited, according to Edwards.

"Talk to me in a year," said Edwards.

The Jets can only hope it doesn't take Pennington a year to heal from his latest shoulder injury. That would put him out the first two months of next season.
