Jets starting tailback Curtis Martin has bone-on-bone in his surgical right knee. The announcement was made by Newark Star-Ledger beat writer Dave Hutchinson.
Martin hurt his knee in Week Two last season, but played with the injury until Week 13. Why he played so long with that condition, is a question for former Jets coach Herman Edwards.
Martin is currently on the PUP list, and Jets coach Eric Mangini refuses to discuss his condition.
If Martin can't start the season, the Jets will likely go with Cedric Houston as their tailback. he showed late last season he's capable of handling the job.
