Whispers- So who is new starting safety?

With Erik Coleman still out with an illness, who is going to take his place in the starting lineup at Tampa Bay?

According to an NFL source, the starter next to Kerry Rhodes at safety will be cornerback Derrick Strait.

Moving cornerbacks to safety was very common in New England, where Jets coach Eric Mangini previously worked. Two examples are Eugene Wilson and Hank Poteat. And it looks like Mangini is taking the same approach with the Jets.

Strait is a solid cornerback, but doesn't have great speed. His lack of a great 40-tine can be hid better at the safety spot.

At cornerback, expect the Jets to start Justin Miller and free agent addition Andre Dyson. David Barrett is out with a groin injury.

As for the front seven, expect the Jets to come out in a 3-4 look, with Shaun Ellis and Kimo Von Oelhoffen at defensive end with Dwayne Robertson at nose tackle.

The linebackers will likely be Bryan Thomas and Eric Barton on the outside, with the inside positions being handled by Jonathan Vilma and Victor Hobson.
