Nose tackle Tui Alailefaleula missed his third straight practice. He was seen on the sidelines hobbling around with a right knee injury. The Jets are very thin at nose tackle now. They lost two nose tackles early in training camp due to the retirement of Monsanto Pope and a season-ending knee injury to Sione Pouha. So they will certainly be scanning the waiver wire on the cut-down to 65 for nose tackles, though they do like rookie free agent Brennan Schmidt . . .
Cornerback David Barrett was held out of the practice. He spent most of the session riding a bike. Barrett missed a big chunk of training camp with a groin injury, but it's unclear whether today's absence was related to that . . .
Cornerback Justin Miller continues to struggle. He committed a pass interference penalty towards the end of practice on wideout Chris M. Baker, pulling him down as he was about to catch the ball . . .
Wide receiver Tim Dwight missed practice with an undisclosed ailment . . .
The right tackle competition is clearly over. It's quite apparent that veteran Anthony Clement has landed the job. He received most of the first team reps the last two weeks, and started the second preseason game. So what happens to Adrian Jones now? He might be on the fence. It looks like Norm Katnik and Doug Neinhaus are locks to back the team as backups. Jones could be in a battle with Steve Morley, Chuck Missant and perhaps a waiver wire pickup for the final spot . . .
Running back Stacy Tutt is still playing with a bulky cast on his left hand. The Jets like Tutt a lot and he seems destined for the practice squad . . .
Quarterback Chad Pennington had a superb last practice, including a 45-yard strike down the left sideline to wide receiver Justin McCareins, and a couple of nice connections with wideout Laveranues Coles. He also connected on a touchdown pass with wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery . . .
McCareins had a solid final practice. Not only did he catch that deep pass from Pennington, he caught a long ball from quarterback Kellen Clemens . . .
Safety Kerry Rhodes wrapped up a tremendous training camp with a athletic defensed pass in the end zone . . .
If the season were to start today, it looks like the starting outside linebackers will be Victor Hobson and Bryan Thomas . . .
Safety Erik Coleman seems to be recovered from his appendectomy, and has been manning the starting safety spot next to Rhodes this week . . .
Andre Dyson had two interceptions in the final practice, and seems to have nailed down one of the starting cornerback jobs . . .
Wide receiver Brad Smith is going to be quite a weapon on fade routes. He was covered perfectly by Dyson in the end zone, but quarterback Brooks Bollinger threw the ball anyway, and Smith used his outstanding vertical leap to grab it for a touchdown . . .
Recently signed Walter Rasby got some reps with the first unit as the second tight end . . .
Based on the amount of reps he received with the starters this summer, it's very clear that Dave Ball is going to get a lot of playing time on the defensive line this season . . .
