Head Coach Herman Edwards
On opening up the offense: "We have to get some more plays, some big plays. Some 25, 40-yard plays. When you can get some plays like that in a football game, you change the field dramatically. It gives you energy all of a sudden. Everybody gets excited. 10-yard plays are O.K. Move the chains. Make first downs. But every once in a while you got to be able to win the big one and go downtown and make the big play."
On Curtis Martin: "Curtis wants to be the best player in the league. The greatest thing about him is he likes practicing."
On turnover in the roster: "We lost some good football players and acquired some good players, and probably eight or nine of those will be starters. I anticipate being a good football team. We want to establish ourselves as a team that's constantly in the playoffs.''
Offensive Coordinator Paul Hackett
On the Jets' quarterback position: "
Running Back Curtis Martin
On the team's goals for this season: "One step further is not good enough for this team. I have high expectations and high standards for this team, and I'm not afraid to put those standards on this team. If we can stay healthy this year, I see us being one of the most dangerous teams in the league."
On the 2002 Jets' roster: "This is the most talent I've been around in my career," (Martin went to the Super Bowl with the 1996 New England Patriots). "On paper, knowing the experience and the skill level, it's as good as I've been around."
Quarterback Vinny Testaverde
On WR Santana Moss: "Santana is one of those players that come along every so often that could be very electrifying. Any time he touches the ball, whether it's a five-yard route or a 50-yard route, you just know that there's a chance that he can take it to the end zone. You just know that puts fear in the hearts of the defenders, that they have to respect that."
On WR Laveranues Coles: "Laveranues continues to improve because of his hard work. He has become a big-time football player for this team."
On being prepared: "Every time I step out on the field I think of myself as the starter. 'You have to think that way as a quarterback. If you don't, you're not going to put yourself in the situation to be as successful as you want.''
On WR Santana Moss: "To me, he is a small Randy Moss. He's got Randy's speed, he's got Randy's athleticism. He just doesn't have the height that Randy does. But he plays bigger than what he is."
Cornerback Aaron Beasley
On playing for Coach Herman Edwards: "It's hard for me to go to sleep at night because I'm excited about getting a chance to work with a coach who played the position. He's so full of life and energy. It's a team game, but no matter what, you have to do your own job. Then you learn to trust your teammates."
Offensive Tackle Jumbo Elliott
On training camp: "Usually I try to hold out, but I can't do that anymore. I love training camp — dormitories, cafeteria food, good times.''
