Cowart Ready for Action

LB Sam Cowart is chomping at the bit to play football again

Thursday's game against Baltimore will be his first game action since tearing his Achilles tendon early last season. The Achilles has not been Cowart's problem this training camp, but rather a tweaked hamstring and sore quad muscle that has kept him out of the majority of practices. Cowart was able to practice for the first time this week, and will start at outside linebacker tomorrow night against the Ravens. Expect him to see between 12-15 plays…Defensive Coordinator Ted Cotrell expects Cowart to be fine, but said this morning, "He has to get the rust out."…The Jets will send a different starting unit against Baltimore due to several injuries. LB Marvin Jones will be held out of the game to rest his sore throat. Jones has been able to practice with the injury, but has not fully regained his voice. LB James Darling will start at middle linebacker in his place…PK John Hall will not play tomorrow due to a sore right hip. Hall hasn't kicked a ball in a few days. PK Danny Boyd will start in his place…QB Tory Woodbury's strained hamstring is not as bad as expected, and he will play as the third string quarterback. He has not been running in practices however and Herm Edwards is concerned that he could aggravate the hamstring. He told Woodbury flat out, "If you scramble [in the game], I'm going to take you out." With that warning, expect Woodbury to stay in the pocket all night…RB Curtis Martin asked Edwards if he could get more than the 1 carry he got in the first preseason game against Pittsburgh. Martin will not get a big load, but should carry the ball more than last week…Edwards made RB LaMont Jordan and DT Larry Webster co-captains for tomorrow's game. Both players went to the University of Maryland, and Webster, aside from playing for Baltimore last season, is also a native of Elkton, Maryland.
