Tough Practice for Secondary

Defensive Coordinator Ted Cottrell yelled to his secondary, "[ that was] probably one of the worst plays in camp", after watching QB Chad Pennington fake the defense out on an option and hit WR Santana Moss for a wide-open, 40-yard touchdown strike.

SS Doug Shanahan was beaten on the play. Two plays later WR Wayne Chrebet made an outstanding catch, leaping between safeties Sam Garnes and Damien Robinson to score another 40-yard touchdown. Then WR Kevin Swayne beat Robinson for another deep touchdown pass, yelling, "That's why you have the title ‘safety'."…In the secondary's defense, two of those deep bombs might have been irrelevant because the defensive line broke through and would have sacked the Jets' quarterbacks. But Cottrell wasn't making excuses. When asked about Robinson giving up the touchdown he said, "Robinson has to fight through the fatigue of camp."…Rookie S Jon McGraw made a terrific play, diving to deflect a pass on a goal line drill…The Jets had another fumbled snap in practice this morning.
