Secondary Bounces Back

After a tough morning practice, the Jets secondary looked sharp in the afternoon session

FS Damien Robinson had an interception off QB Chad Pennington and gained about 20-yards on the return. A few plays later, CB Donnie Abraham leaped over the intended receiver and intercepted another Pennington pass…The offense did have the play of the day however, when Pennington connected on a 60-yard bomb to WR Kevin Swayne, who beat everybody on the play…There were a couple of big collisions in the afternoon session. CB Marcus Floyd gives up about 90 lbs on TE Anthony Becht, but was able to knock him to the ground. Becht held onto the ball. Toward the end of practice, LB James Darling leveled LS-TE James Dearth, but Dearth was also able to hold onto the ball…WR Santana Moss made an outstanding play, lunging over the middle of the field to catch a ball by the fingertips…WR Kory Bailey, Laveranues Coles and TE Daniel Wilcox all had drops.

The Jets are in the midst of contract negotiations with C Kevin Mawae. Mawae is in the final year of his contract, and counts $5.4 million against the Salary Cap. The team is trying to work out a long-term deal with the three-time Pro Bowl center that would lower his annual cap figure. Mawae returned to practice full time last Saturday, and will play in this Saturday's game against the Giants…DE Riley Kleinhesselink is progressing nicely after spraining his ankle in the Pittsburgh game, and may try and practice tomorrow…PK John Hall was back kicking in practice today and will play in Saturday's game against the Giants…DE John Abraham continued to rehab his sprained MCL today by jogging on the practice field…Herm Edwards felt LB Sam Cowart was a little over-aggressive in his first game back against the Ravens, and it cost him on a few plays. Cowart is still adjusting to a new system, while at the same time, working the rust off. "He's going to make a lot of tackles," said Edwards.
