Jets promote 6-9 OT Blanton from taxi squad

The New York Jets announced the following roster moves: signed offensive lineman Ed Blanton to the active roster; signed defensive back Alfonso Hodge and offensive lineman Charles Missant to the practice squad; placed defensive back Jamie Thompson on Injured Reserve due to a foot injury; released defensive back Andre Maddox from the practice squad.

Blanton (6-9, 330 lbs.) was originally signed by the Jets as a rookie free-agent on May 12, 2006 and signed to the Jets' practice squad Sept. 3. Blanton was a three-year starter for UCLA and earned Pac-10 honorable mention as a senior in 2005.

Hodge (5-10, 203 lbs.) was originally drafted in the fifth round out of Miami (OH) by Kansas City in 2005. He was then released and signed to the practice squad in September, 2005 and then signed to the active roster in November, 2005 but was inactive for the final six games.

Missant (6-3, 295 lbs.) was originally signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent on April 10, 2005 but released prior to the regular season. He re-signed with the Jets on January 9, 2006 and allocated to NFL Europe. He was waived by the Jets on Sept. 2, 2006.
