The Trade That Wasn't

The Jets were attempting to make a trade for a strong safety, but all talks fell through when the asking price became too high.

Jets management has not indicated which team they were negotiating with, or what player.

Buffalo Head Coach Greg Williams understands his offensive line is young and inexperienced, but he likes the line's potential.

"We're very happy with the athletic potential that's there. In the long run we're gonna have a pretty solid offensive line."

The line will have their hands full this Sunday against the Jets, who historically have had good success against Drew Bledsoe, and will have DE John Abraham back for the game. Williams also spoke highly of DT Josh Evans, whom he coached in Tennessee.

"He's a fun player to coach because his motor runs hot and high all the time. He's a very strong football player and a very active player."

The Bills new linebacker London Fletcher also spoke to the New York media today and is impressed with the Jets offense.

"In the preseason they're clicking on all cylinders. It probably looks like the best offense in the National Football League."

DT Larry Webster returned to practice today for the first time since suffering a quad contusion in the second preseason game against Baltimore. Webster has been upgraded to questionable for Sunday's game in Buffalo… WR Wayne Chrebet made the play of the day in practice today, sliding feet first to make an outstanding catch on a QB Vinny Testaverde throw… LB Sam Cowart missed an easy interception and immediately heard about it from Ted Cottrell and Herm Edwards.
