Why was Bobby Hamilton re-signed?

You might be wondering why the Jets re-signed 36-year-old defensive end Bobby Hamilton. There is a real good reason the move was made.

Hamilton was somewhat quiet last year. Aside from an impressive sack of quarterback J.P. Losman in Buffalo, he didn't make many impact plays.

It looked like he might have lost a step he couldn't afford to lose.

So it was somewhat suprising the Jets re-signed him on Tuesday. Especially after they decided to keep fellow 36-year-old defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen on the roster.

Not many people expected both of them back.

So why was Hamilton inked this week? Well it wasn't all about next season.

He's probably a long-shot to make the roster in training camp.

The biggest reason Hamilton was re-signed was his great leadership skills, and how he can provide a positive impact during the off-season workout program. His amazing motor has a trickle-down effect on young players, and the Jets front office things this can have a big impact in the off-season workouts.
