Abraham Survives Test

DE John Abraham was only supposed to get about 20 plays on Sunday against the Bills, but wound up playing almost the whole game.

Abraham kept telling coaches he was fine and wanted to be in, so he wound up getting about 50 plays. He was finally forced to sit when he hurt his ankle toward the end of the game. That injury is not serious. He had four tackles on the afternoon, and a gift sack when QB Drew Bledsoe slipped.

RB Curtis Martin is listed as day-to-day with a sprained left ankle. He did not participate in practice today. The players had a short walkthrough after watching game film from Sunday. Ordinarily Herm Edwards will give his team Monday off after a win, but felt they had too much to work on after making several mistakes against Buffalo.

DE Steve White has a lower leg strain, but will be fine for this Sunday's home opener against New England… CB Jamie Henderson is still out for this week's game… DT Larry Webster might be able to go this Sunday, but is still listed as questionable… RB LaMont Jordan is wearing a hard cast on his wrist, after injuring it while blocking on a kickoff return. Jordan is not expected to miss any time.

The Buffalo Bills had 77 offensive plays compared to 51 for the Jets. Many of the Bills' drives were prolonged by Jet penalties, including two roughing the kicker, one roughing the passer and a 15-yard facemask. The Jets had 10 penalties in the game, after recording 13 in four preseason games. Last year the Jets had the fewest penalties in the league with 63.

Edwards was very pleased with his team's attitude and felt that at no point in the game did anyone believe they wouldn't win. The positive attitude was one of the things he addressed with the team before the game. Edwards said he wasn't sure that last year's team had the same confidence starting the season.

On WR Eric Moulds' 52-yard reception, Bledsoe put on a great pump fake that fooled CB Aaron Beasley. Ordinarily a quarterback won't have the time to make a five-step drop and pump fake on a deep pass, but the line gave Bledsoe lots of protection.

In his press conference, Edwards was asked what he would say to FS Damien Robinson, who committed the roughing the passer penalty late in the fourth quarter that prolonged Buffalo's game tying drive.

"Before he's a player, he's a man. I'm not going to embarrass my players," said Edwards. Before the penalty, Robinson made some terrific plays in the game, including breaking up the pass that was intercepted by Beasley.
