Top DE/OLB prospect visits Jets

The Jets continue to pound the pavement looking for 3-4 outside linebackers who can help their pass rush. On Tuesday, they hosted one such player.

Notre Dame defensive end Victor Abiamiri was in Hempstead on Tuesday meeting with the Jets. At 6-4, 271 pounds, Abiamiri could project to 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL. He would probably have to drop a little weight to do so. But some scouts wonder if he has the ability to play in space. This is necessary to play 3-4 outside linebacker. Abiamiri might be a better fit for 4-3 defensive end.

Abiamiri is a New York Jets-type of player in many ways. He was a captain at Notre Dame, is extremely bright and has a great work ethic. Those are three very important characteristics for Eric Mangini-type players.

The Jets might be able to grab him with one of their two second round picks.

Mangini has received good imput about Abiamiri from Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis. Mangini and Weis worked together on the staff of the New England Patriots.
