Jets looking closely at Big Ten linebacker

The Jets are expressing a lot of interest in a Big Ten linebacker who looks like a good fit for their 3-4 defense.

The Jets had Michigan's Prescott Burgess in for a workout, and he seems to be on their radar screen. Aside from working him out, the Jets also had a private meeting with Burgess at The Combine.

He is a little over 6-3, and weighs 240 pounds. While he doesn't have great speed (between 4.8 and 4.9), he's a decent coverage linebacker. He's the type of smart, hard-working, good character player Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum likes.

Burgess could be a third round consideration for the Jets. He will probably never be a star, but could turn into a solid 10-year pro with starting potential.
