After practice, Wade Smith spent some extra time working on his shot-gun snapping. Smith, the back-up center, is having a lot of problems with this, and several of his snaps have sailed over the heads of various quarterbacks . . .
On a screen pass to Thomas Jones, Pete Kendall pancaked Eric Barton in the right flat. This play pointed out two things. Kendall is a better pulling guard than Adrian Clarke, the man who who is attempting to take his job. And secondly, Barton isn't great at taking on guards, and this is why he's not a good fit for the 3-4 defense . . .
The Jets #2 tight end Sean Ryan is a good blocker, but a very limited receiver. He was unable to come down with a pass that was a little high, but very catchable. The player battling Ryan for the #2 job, Joe Kowalewski, who is a better receiver, was held out of the morning practice with an undisclosed injury . . .
Mike Nugent had three touchbacks in the Jets Sunday "scrimmage" at Fordham . . .
