Dan's views on the Jets win over Atlanta

Left guard Adrien Clarke got off to a really good start.

On his first play from scrimmage, he pancaked linebacker DeMorrio Williams on a Thomas Jones gain of five. This is the one area he might have a slight edge over Kendall. He's a more powerful run blocker. He also did a good job pulling on a Leon Washington screen that gained 13 yards . . .

It looks like Eric Hicks is very much part of the plans. The former Kansas City Chiefs end, took over for Sean Ellis the second time the Jets defense took the field. He looks like a real good fit at the 3-4 spot at 6-6, 290 pounds . . .

One negative in this Jets victory was the lack of pass rush from the outside linebacker spots. Granted the Jets didn't to show a lot of wrinkles, but the team still needs to get more pressure from the OLB's . . .

Jets reserve tight end Jason Pociask received a lot of action in the fourth quarter at fullback. Remember the Jets drafted him with the possibility of moving him to fullback. After spending last year on IR, he looks like a practice squad candidate this year . . .

You would be hard-pressed to find a faster fullback in the NFL than Stacy Tutt. The Jets attempted a pass 50 yards down field to Tutt. How often do teams throw deep passes to fullback? While it fell incomplete, he showed impressive speed running down the sideline running for it . . .

Eric Barton was very active – finishing with four tackles in limited action. He played with a lot fo spirit . . .

Rookie tailback Alvin Banks has a lot of potential, but he needs to show a little more patience waiting for holes to open up . . .

Interesting comment from Eric Mangini after the game. While he was happy with Kellen Clemens three touchdown performance, he thinks the quarterback's approach in the first preseason game might have been a little bit too risky.

"He hung in the pocket too long for right now," said Mangini . . .

Backup safety Ray Ventrone helped himself with two really nice plays. He had a terrific stop on a kickoff, and ended a fourth quarter drive drive with a run stop. On the run defense, he showed terrific quickness off the edge . . .

There was a huge Japanese media contingent at the game to watch Falcons receiver Noriaki Kinoshita play . . .

Tight end Sean Ryan's two touchdown game is going to make opponents acknowledge he's a threat in the passing game, something they didn't do last year . . .

Rookie offensive tackle Jacob Bender has a lot of potential, but this game showed he also needs a lot of work. He's very raw . . .
