Dan's thoughts on the Jets-Giants game

Sean Ryan is having some penalty issues this preseason.

He had his third penalty of this preseason when he held on a first half kickoff . . .

NT Sione Pouha flashed with a quarterback hit and a defensed pass, but keep in mind it all came against the Giants third string center – Matt Lentz . . .

Eric Mangini seems to have really taken a liking to rookie free agent cornerback Manny Collins. With Justin Miller and Andre Dyson inactive, Collins received the most playing time of any cornerback. Aside from giving up a touchdown to WR Anthony Mix on a fade, he was pretty solid in coverage . . .

Aside from a couple of sacks in the second half by DT C.J. Mosley and LB David Bowens against the Giants backup line, the pass rush was non-existent, like it has been most of the preseason . . .

LB David Harris was one of the Jets top defenders. He had five tackles on defense, and one special team's tackle. He is a big-time hitter . . .

It was another impressive game by Jets rookie tailback Danny Ware with 15 carries for 57 yards, and one reception for 18 yards. Ware does a very good job running downhill, and creating yards even without much blocking . . .

Former Chicago Bear first round pick Michael Haynes is clearly on the bubble. He once against played with the third string, and made very little happen. He seems to be struggling with his transition to the 3-4 defense.

On the other hand, former Kansas City Chief end Eric Hicks has made a smooth transition, and has actually cracked the starting lineup. He is currently starting opposite Shaun Ellis . . .

Backup C Wade Smith continues to struggle with the shotgun snap. He hit QB Marques Tuiasosopo on the shoulder with a fourth quarter snap that resulted in a fumble recovered by the Giants . . .

Giants NT Tui Alailefaleula has a nice stop of Ware in the backfield in the fourth quarter. He was in Jets camp last summer, but was cut early. It's still a mystery why the Jets didn't keep him around. He's an athletic 6-3, 345 pound nose tackle, who looks like a great fit for the 3-4 . . .

TE Joe Kowalewski had a nice game, finishing with three second half receptions. There is a good chance he's going to end up on the practice squad again.
