Jets Trying to Find Positives

Herm Edwards and the Jets were able to find a few positives in their latest loss.

Although the Jets lost their fourth game in a row today, they played a better brand of football. Unlike the previous thrashings, the Jets had a three point lead with about three minutes to go in the game, when the Chiefs orchestrated a pretty, game-winning drive. The offense showed signs of life for the first time this season. Curtis Martin went over 100 yards for the first time, Santana Moss had his best game as a Jet, and Chad Pennington completed 76 percent of his passes in his first NFL Start. Unfortunately, the defense continued to struggle mightily, and their inability to stop RB Priest Holmes and the Chiefs' offense led to the loss. With the bye week ahead, the Jets will have two weeks to sort out their defensive woes. At the very least, they can feel good about a much improved offensive performance. Here's what the Jets had to say after the game.

 Herm Edwards:

"I thought for the most part, the offense did a nice job of moving the ball. We scored when we had the opportunity. Chad did a good job for his first start [and] Curtis ran the ball pretty well. It was one of those games where we felt we had to score points, and the offense did that. We were in the game in the fourth quarter and we just gave up some big plays in the end. We are not playing good enough defense, and it showed up in the fourth quarter when we needed a stop. We have to look at the defense. We have a bye week and we have to figure out what we are going to do. We have players here who we feel are good players. We just have to play better."

Curtis Martin:

"It was disappointing. This one kind of hurt more than all the other ones. The other ones, we were getting blown out. By the end of the third quarter, you knew you were going to lose. This one, we all rallied up this week. We thought we had it today [and] we let it slip away. There's nothing usually right afterwards, there's nothing good to think about the loss. But we can pull away that we have something to build on. We feel like we're just about over the hump, but today we got set back a little bit."

Chad Pennington:

"Well we found some rhythm offensively, but I think if you look at the game, I left some plays out there offensively, left some yardage, and maybe left some touchdowns to help us out. Anytime you lose it's disappointing and this one is hard to take. But when you're at the bottom, you have only one way to go and that's up. I told some of the guys that I still believe that we can turn this around. I don't care what history says or what the facts are. I think we can turn it around and make a run at it."
