Jets add potential pass rush help

The New York Jets have signed linebacker Marques Murrell from the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Murrell (6-2, 246, Appalachian State) was a two-time first team All-America at Appalachian State, where he recorded 36 sacks and set a school record, forcing 18 fumbles. The Fayetteville, NC native helped Appalachian State win two consecutive national championships (2005, 2006). He originally signed with the Eagles as an unrestricted free agent on April 30, was waived Sept. 1 and signed to the practice squad Sept. 3. Murrell is the younger brother of Adrian Murrell, who played running back for the Jets from 1993-97, gaining 3,447 yards.

"He has an excellent motor and high intensity," said Eric Mangini. "He was someone that was very productive in the preseason and did a good job rushing the passer. Has some flexibility to play on his feet and at a couple different spots."
