Jets have some defensive options

If the Jets want to add to their defensive coaching staff, they have some very good options.

It's possible that the Jets might add another defensive coordinator-type to work with Eric Mangini and Bob Sutton, and one of the Ryan Brothers might be an option.

Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is now a free agent. He was let go with Brian Billick and his staff on Monday.

Rex Ryan is one of the brightest defensive minds in football, and likes to play the 3-4 defense.

HIs twin brother Rob Ryan might also be available shortly. Currently the Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator, there are rumors that he could be replaced by Monte Kiffin once Tampa Bay's season is is over. Monte is the father of Oakland coach Lane Kiffin.

Rob Ryan is also a coach who loves the 3-4 defense. Rob Ryan and Eric Mangini are very good friends from their time together on the New England staff.

Another option for high-ranking defensive coaching position with Bob Sutton is Ed Donatell, the former Green Bay and Atlanta defensive chief. Donatell was quietly added to the Jets staff this summer. He is a very smart defensive mind, and will likely get promoted by the Jets this off-season. At the very least, Donatell is probably in line to become the Jets secondary coach, replacing Mike McIntyre who is leaving to join David Cutcliff's staff at Duke.

Expect one or two of these men to play key roles on the Jets defensive staff next year, along with the classy Sutton, who will likely be on the staff as well.
