A media created story is shot down

Woody Johnson told Gary Myers that Mike Tannenbaum and Eric Mangini will be back in 2009, no matter what happens in 2008.

"Meanwhile, with lots of speculation around the NFL that Tannenbaum and Mangini must win now to keep their jobs after going 4-12 last year, owner Woody Johnson attempted to put an end to that talk," wrote Myers in the Daily News. "No matter what happens this season, neither Mangini nor Tannenbaum will be fired, Johnson said."

The media's job is to report stories not create them. This was a media-created story. So when the writer says "a lot of speculation" he should have written "a lot of unfounded media speculation." These guys are here for the long run.
