Jets Schedule - Open at Miami

A season opener at Miami, their third consecutive home opener against New England, two prime-time games on the road and four road games on the West Coast highlight the New York Jets 2008 schedule that was announced by the National Football League on Tuesday.

The Jets' September 7 contest against the Dolphins will mark the fifth consecutive decade that the Jets will have at least one regular season opener against the Dolphins. An even rarer scheduling occurrence has the Jets and Dolphins facing each other in both the opener and finale of the regular season. This is the first time in team history the Jets will play the same opponent to begin and end the regular season. The closest the team has come to this scenario was in 1981 and 1982 when the team began the season with Buffalo and Miami respectively, before facing both teams in the postseason.

After Miami, the Jets will play both of last season's AFC Championship game participants in consecutive weeks. After facing the Patriots on September 14, the team will travel to San Diego for a Monday Night contest on ESPN at 8:30 PM on September 22.

"That surprises me," said Adam Schein of Sirius about the Jets Monday Night appearance. "That game doesn't do much for me."

The Jets then return to the East Coast for a home contest versus Arizona on September 28. The Cardinals contest begins a three-week stretch at home. Following Arizona is a Week 5 bye and a home game versus Cincinnati on October 12.

Road games at Oakland on October 19 and Buffalo on November 2 sandwich a home engagement against Kansas City on October 26. After Buffalo, the Jets have a home date with St. Louis on November 9 followed by the Jets' first-ever NFL Network appearance on Thursday night, November 13, at New England. The Jets travel to Tennessee for a November 23 contest prior to hosting Denver on November 30.

The regular season home schedule ends with divisional contests versus Buffalo on December 14 and Miami on December 28 with each game preceded by a visit to the West Coast as the Jets travel to San Francisco for a December 7 game and to Seattle for a contest on December 21.

The preseason schedule was also finalized, although the opponents were released last week. The Jets' preseason opener at Cleveland will be Thursday night, August 7. Following home Saturday night games against Washington and the Giants, the preseason ends with the traditional Thursday night contest at Philadelphia.

This will also mark the third season that the NFL will implement a primetime "flexible scheduling" element. All Sunday afternoon games in Weeks 11-17 are subject to being moved into the Sunday night window at 8:15 PM ET and games may also be moved to 4:15 PM ET, using a 12-day notice in Weeks 10-16 and a six-day notice format in Week 17. Games can also be moved from 4:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Flexible scheduling will not be applied to games on Thursday, Saturday or Monday night.
