Pro Bowl Bound

The Pro Bowl selections for the 2002 season were announced today and Kevin Mawae and John Abraham will be the Jets representatives.

Earlier in the Day, Mawae talked about the possibility of making it this year.

"It would be an honor to get selected to go, so if that's the case, I'm extremely happy about it," said Mawae. "It's a great honor, not just for myself but for my teammates, because without them I wouldn't be able to go. The older you get, the more prescious they become."

The John Abraham selection comes as more of a surprise because he missed the entire preseason with a sprained MCL and struggled early in the year. But Abraham has quietly achieved a respectable sack total of 8.5, which is third among defensive ends in the AFC.

Patriots starting cornerback Otis Smith has been placed on the IR and will not be active for Sunday's game. He will be replaced with either Terrell Buckley or Leonard Myers.

The reason that Jonathan Reese was signed to the Jets practice squad yesterday was because the Tampa Bay Bucs signed TE Daniel Wilcox off of the Jets practice squad earlier in the week.

The Jets have seven players on the injury report, but all are listed as probable and expected to play. Richie Anderson, LaMont Jordan, Curtis Martin, and Santana Moss are all nursing sore ankles. Martin also had a sore knee that he jammed in last week's game against the Bears. Wayne Chrebet has a sore neck, which he suffered on the last play of the Bears game, when came down head-first and fumbled the football. Dave Szott's surgically repaired knee is sore as well, but that is to be expected. Szott had his surgery six months ago today, to repair a torn ACL.

The Miami Dolphins will go on the road this Saturday to play Minnesota. If the Dolphins win, the Jets will be out of contention to win the division, and will only be able to make the playoffs as a wild card team.
