"Scrappy kid, quicker than you would think, good burst, tough in the box for his size, undersized, good athletic ability, smart, great intangibles, good hand, good anticipation, very good punt returner," said Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times outside of Baltimore. "Tough kid. The type of football player coaches and fans love. Can't say enough good things about him .Jets are better today with him in the lineup."

"I think Leonhard is a solid player," said Allen Wilson of the Buffalo News. "Not a star, but solid. I know he had a very good season with the Ravens, but it probably was the result of playing next to an All-World safety in Ed Reed and with so many other great players. He never would have had that kind of year with the Bills. He should benefit the Jets though because they have good defensive talent. He's small, but very tough and instinctive. Rarely makes mistakes or is caught out of position. Also excels as a punt returner. All in all, a nice addition to the Jets."

"He is not blessed with great [size], but has such a good head for the game that his anticipation skills have him in position to make plays," said one long-time Bills observer in the media. "He is a good punt returner that will break a 20 to 40 yarder but will never take it the distance unless there's a complete breakdown.

"What he did in Baltimore in that defense was the perfect storm for him. Surrounded by all that talent the ball was often coming his way, but he made the plays so he deserves credit for that. Is he surrounded by equal talent in NY? Possibly, but no Ed Reed or Ray Lewis there. We'll see."
